For a writer and journalist, I've had an almost perfect baby boomer's life. A little bit of everything. I grew up in the all-girl Boston world of private schools and women's college — ultimately becoming simultaneously the president of my class at Wellesley, and the founder of SDS, Students for a Democratic Society, on the Wellesley campus.

I completed a graduate degree in Political Science at MIT, and went to work for the RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, working on social initiatives such as the first National Health Insurance study, and an MBA at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. As the first MBA student to give birth over summer break, there was a faculty vote to decide whether I should be allowed to return for the fall semester.

After graduation from Wharton, I worked for Booz Allen & Hamilton, the Philadelphia National Bank, and launched a financial marketing company. Returning to Boston, I joined USTrust as the Senior Vice President for Marketing. After USTrust, I became the Executive Director of the Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts (now the Tweeter Center). Three years later, I was asked to create and manage midwinter events for the Boston Visitors and Convention Bureau.

With my former husband, I launched three restaurants that which earned multiple awards for their food, but somehow lost money in each location, and on every day of the week. After closing the restaurant business, I started to write, becoming a contributing editor at Boston Magazine with my second piece.

I write often about health, nutrition, and lifestyle issues for publications such as the Christian Science Monitor, the Boston Globe and Boston Globe Magazine, World & I, O! The Oprah Magazine, and MORE magazine, Ladies' Home Journal, the Boston Phoenix, Swissair's In Flight, Continental Magazine, Gourmet, MORE, and Natural Health among others. For the past eight years, I have been the Food Editor of Stuff@Night and a bi-weekly columnist for the Boston Phoenix. I also launched two national travel magazines — Pure Canada, and Escape, a magazine for American Express customers, and continue to write many travel pieces for multiple outlets.

In the last year, I have written about an effort to build a day school for girls in Rwanda, writing about literacy and community libraries in Nepal, and been researching a book about TOSTAN, an NGO that has UNICEF has named as the best practices program to end Female Genital Mutilation in Africa, a health crisis that affects 50 million women in the Islamic belt of Western Africa, and an additional 5 million girls each year. I'm now married to my college sweetheart, live in Cambridge, Massachusetts and have two grown daughters who complicate and enrich my life daily.
